Fundraiser from the Heart
On Sunday, April 21st, 12 year old Emma Saban held an Arts and Crafts sale, raising $223.00 which she has donated to the NSO. For the last 6 months, Emma has been diligently working, preparing various types of crafts and works of art. Emma recently lost her Uncle Chad through complications of neuro-sarcoidosis. With universal sarcoidosis awareness month fast aproaching in April 2013 we are starting to receive proclamations from our provinces in Canada. Each province was approached by a letter back in December asking for their support by proclaiming April 2013 as Sarcoidosis Awareness Month and on April 13, 2013 people are asked to wear purple and white to show their support. In 2013 a new Canadian campaign called S.T.A.R. will be in effect across Canada. S.T.A.R. stands for Sarcoidosis, Awareness, Treatment and Research. This campaign will officially launch during April which is the international month to spread awareness about sarcoidosis. This article states that it is safe to get the influenza vaccine if you have pulmonary sarcoidosis. It has been suggested not to recieve the live vaccine which is given by nasal spray as most patients with sarcoidosis have already weakend immune systems. N.S.O. Has A New Board Of Directors
On November 24, 2012 the National Sarcoidosis Organization held its annual meeting which allowed others to come and see what the organization is about. The organization had three board members step down to take chair positions so an election was held. We heard from others who were nominated or volunteered to help fill the positions and the new board of directors was then formed by voting. Our new board is as stated:
